Family Engagement Specialist  

 

KERA is looking for a talented, detail-oriented educator who is committed to working with other educators and families to cultivate learning-rich environments Does that describe you? This is a new position, created to help the Education Director and Education Team expand KERA’s education services by developing new programs, forging new partnerships, and reaching more families and schools, particularly those in under resourced areas. This is an exciting opportunity to help expand our educational services to additional Learning Neighborhoods in North Texas with a focus on providing opportunities for enrichment and learning to prepare young children to succeed in school, and beyond. 

KERA provides high-quality educational resources from PBS and the Ready To Learn initiative as well as other trusted sources to train educators and parents to use the resources effectively. KERA also collaborates with local, state and national partners to extend our reach to more schools, families, and communities. SUMMARY OF THE ROLE: 

The Family Engagement Specialist will support the Education Director in expanding KERA’s education services as a leading provider of high-quality, free education content and activities. The Family Engagement Specialist will be passionate and excited about sharing learning opportunities to engage schools, families, and community organizations across North Texas. 

This position is FLSA classified as non-exempt, is eligible for overtime and reports directly to the Education Director. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

  • Work closely with the Education Director and education team to plan, facilitate, and implement engaging learning opportunities for families including workshops and events. 

  • Work with educators and advisors to curate and adapt resources for teaching and learning provided by PBS LearningMedia and other trusted sources for use by North Texas schools, community nonprofits, students, and families 

  •  Help the Education Director and team develop and maintain strategic partnerships at the local, state, and national levels 

  • Collaborate with local partners to present KERA’s community-based education programs and recruit families to participate in programs 

  • Plan and present sessions for training educators and parents to use materials and programs from KERA most effectively including PBS Learning Media 

  • Create lesson plans and other teaching tools to augment KERA’s teaching and learning programs and the work of other KERA departments 

  • Help the Education Director and team keep social media vibrant and fresh based on the needs of our education audiences  

  • Represent KERA’s education services at community events and education conferences 

  • Stay up to date on plans by PBS and other public media stations for broadcast and digital programming and community-based activities 

  • Assist to evaluate the efficacy of KERA’s teaching and learning programs through strong data record keeping 

  • Assist with the dissemination of KERA’s communication services such as newsletters and the Bright by Text platform

  • At least three years of experience as a teacher OR 

  • At least three years of experience in education, education technology, or family engagement 

  • Proficient in the use of digital media tools in both virtual and face-to-face learning environments 

  • Strong knowledge of the Tarrant County education systems and community partners dedicated to family engagement 

  • Highly informed on Pre-K through 6th grade educational trends and resources to deepen student and parent/caregiver engagement 

  •  Track, monitor, and analyze data from the Learning Neighborhood program to ensure alignment with program objectives and report on monthly program outcomes. 

  •  Demonstrated excellent writing, communication and presentation skills 

  • Proactive and quick learner who can solve problems, multi-tasks, anticipates organizational and partnership needs as well as meets deadlines 

  • Able to interact and communicate diplomatically with multiple external organizations, internal departments and diverse audiences 

 

BONUS IF YOU BRING: 

  • Bilingual in Spanish and other languages common in Texas a plus 

  • Experience as a lead teacher or leadership roles within the education field 

  • Experience in early childhood education  

  • Experience creating surveys, analyzing data, and reporting on outcomes 

  • Experience/familiarity with the mission and services of public media 

 

SALARY RANGE 

$57,000 - $64,000, annually depending on experience

LOCATION: 

This position will have expectations of working in both Tarrant County and some workshops and events in Dallas. We expect this position will work out of the Dallas office at least 25% of the time.
