Job Description

Pittsburg State University invites applications for the position of Feature Reporter at NPR Member Station, KRPS.

The primary function is to work as a full-time reporter producing Kansas centric news and features for Four States Public Radio.  

Duties and Responsibilities

75% Reporting, editing, writing

• Identify key news issues that affect the lives of residents of Kansas. Locate, contact and schedule interviews with sources. 
• Write and edit daily news content 
• Plan long-term projects. 

10% Digital, post stories and update KRPS.org when needed

• Create, edit and publish to NPR’s Grove digital platform.  
• Update KRPS’ social media feed with KRPS or Pittsburg State news content; i.e., Facebook, X. 

5% Membership drives

• Participate and assist in planning and executing KRPS's fall and spring membership campaigns. 

5% Serve as back-up Morning Edition or Weekday Host

• Serve as Morning Edition (5 a.m. – 9 a.m.) or weekday afternoon host as needed during vacation of usual host and other circumstances. 

5% Other Duties As Assigned

Education and Experience

Required Education and Experience at Hire 

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education
• 2 years of experience in journalism 
• Demonstrated experience of journalism ethics and AP style

Preferred Education Experience 

• Experience operating an audio board.
• Experience participating in professional journalism groups, including those focused on public radio

Salary: $40,000

Job Type:  Unclassified

Appointment Duration:  12 months

Work Schedule:  Full Time – Monday - Friday 8 am -5 pm & weekends as needed
