It was quite a shock to tune into Ken Burn’s production and not find Closed Captioning. Please tell me why?

Call letter changes, poor reception...., feeling disrespected as a long time supporter of public radio in Cleveland

Ohio
Feedback:

I am extremely disappointed with the recent shuffle of the three stations in north east Ohio (WCPN, WKSU, WCLV). While I understand there might be an expanded listenership outside of Cleveland, public radio reception in Cleveland is substandard at best. Adding insult to injury, the WKSU call letters are a constant reminder of a college owned small city (pop 30,000) station with poor reception and the abandonment of the urban identity of WCPN.

Note from CPB: Thank you for contacting the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). CPB, PBS, and NPR are independent of each other and of the local public television and radio stations across the country. Each local public broadcasting stations makes their own decisions in regards to programming and CPB is prohibited from interfering in programming decisions. One Small Step

Feedback:
Dave Isey is spot on with this program, and has just reached the tip of the iceberg. Maybe its is time to up the ante, and move it to the ultimate goal of the Senate and the House, and start sitting down a Republic across from a Democrat, and maybe, just maybe they two can both learn from each other about what can be accomplished in this great nation of ours, if, and only if bills can pass in a bipartisan way, can you just imagine, just a thought, probably more difficult getting them together, but maybe in both are in session, it might just work.

Congratulations on the funding increase just approved by Congress. Please allocate a substantial portion of that funding to enable local stations to improve local reporting and to broaden NPR's appeal in local markets.

The pain of inflation

New Jersey
Feedback:

Why can't the US news outlets follow up their strenuous, fear-making reports of inflation, with the REASON.... NOT BIDEN, NOT CONGRESS BUT OUR TRYING TO DEFEND UKRAINE from loss of its land, homes and freedom by using our money, resources and power.

Are we so selfish that we can't see that?

I wonder how we relatively well-healed Americans would feel if the roles were reversed!!!!!

Our news needs to temper cause and effect, with compassion....without that, we are not as free, selfless and decent as we think we are.

Re: Brooks and Capehart. While I am sure Mr. Capehart is more than qualified and well informed, he talks too much. I feel like I am getting preached to, and therefore, David Brooks or whoever the other panelist is, doesn't stand a chance to get their views properly aired I used to make sure never to miss this segment...now, not so much.

This program has always been a favorite. Robert Costa brought a level of experience, expertise, clarity in his presentation of topics and interaction with reporters. I love and appreciate Yamiche Alcindor but not for this program. Also I have not been able to access the extra right away as I used to through the pbs website.

pbs passport to nowhere

Massachusetts
Feedback:

I contribute to PBS ... but will shortly call them (and my bank) and stop contributing. Four of us ... have spent probably 7 or 8 hours total ... trying to get 'passport' to work so that I can see shows on the PBS app on my TV .... does not work ... I will certainly tell family members not to 'support' PBS ... and I will discontinue my support.

Note from CPB: Thank you for contacting the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). CPB and PBS are two separate and independent organizations. Please refer to PBS for questions about their PBS Passport service. https://www.pbs.org/about/about-pbs/contact-information/

Who Will CPB Support?

New York
Feedback:

Congress just gave CPB another significant increase in its future federal funding, yet there is no public-facing strategy to ensure any of it will reach BIPOC documentary filmmakers who are eager to work in public media. A lot of people who signed on to support bipocmakers.com and publicmediaforall.com are fighting for a post-Ken Burns world. Where can people go to learn more about CPB's plans for its $50M increase?

Note from CPB: Thank you for contacting the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) about CPB’s FY 2024 federal appropriation from Congress. Each year, CPB distributes the federal appropriation for the public media system in accordance with a statutory formula outlined in the Public Broadcasting Act. Within the statutory formula, CPB supports public radio and television stations, independent producers, and diverse informational, educational, and cultural content and services. CPB’s commitment to funding diverse content creators is reflected in its longstanding investments in organizations such as the Independent Television Service (ITVS), the National Multicultural Alliance, the Firelight Media, Native Voice One, Urban Alternative, as well as support to individual producers and programs reflecting the diverse American experience. donation

Feedback:

Two weeks ago I made a $60 donation to WDTV in Detroit. I received a confirmation but did not receive a code to access PBS Passport, as was promised from a PBS telephone operator. She said I would receive the code the day I made a donation. Since then I have tried to contact WDTV by email and phone five times, asking them to send me a code. No one replied. No code was sent. I have been a contributor for four decades but 'm afraid I have made my last donation. I live in Windsor, Canada, directly across the border to Detroit. - Brian Bannon

Note from CPB: Thank you for contacting the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). CPB has no involvement in Passport, but I have forwarded your concern to Detroit Public TV.

A1 Radio

Ohio
Feedback:

Dear CPB Ombudsman,

As a liberal Democrat and someone committed to minority rights, I am dismayed at my own annoyance with the IMO heavy programming about minority & underclass issues on Jenn White's A1 radio show which I listen to most mornings. While Ms. White is clearly very talented and does an excellent job, the mega dose of minorities injustices --- altho valid --- just gets tiresome. Maybe it's not the topics themselves, rather either their repetitive, downbeat slant or their overlay on stories in other news channels about the generally depressing state of the country/world. I'm emotionally exhausted.

I'd love to hear some positive stories on other critical issues as well such as the environment, economy, student loan debt, health care costs/access, the pandemic, etc. --- especially ones looking at progress being made, not just grievances and problems.

Thank you for considering my opinion.

Respectfully, Anne Blaisdell

Swan Lake

Please air Swan Lake in protest of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. It was the only program that aired on a loop when the Soviet Union fell. This might be symbolic, but powerful. It could run as a fundraiser for the Ukrainian people.

Fundraising and station content

Illinois
Feedback:

I am completely disenchanted with PBS based on the amount of fundraising done and on the content of the shows that are used to inflict this nuisance on the public. Many of these shows (health, retirement schemes, rehashes of shows for which I would rather see the show itself, and very biased and one-sided coverage of topics) make me wonder why I still bother to send in a contribution. I am totally done with this and with seeing anything I would like to just "sit down and watch" go to Passport. I wish someone would burn the tapes of Downton Abbey and many of the other series produced in the last 20 years. There have to be great things in the vault, but one would never know. The broadcast material no longer fulfills its need of providing material for an audience with a wide range of interests and the contant whining, carping, and complaining cannot be helping anyone's mental health.

Note from CPB: Thank you for contacting the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). CPB does not broadcast programming and does not own, operate, or control local stations. Please contact your local station with your concerns.

promos for CPB podcasts and for-profit providers

Michigan
Feedback:

Have I been asleep at the switchor are you increasing the number of fundraisers you incorporate into programming? In any case, I resent it.

I'm a green donor to my local station, WKAR in Lansing pre-empts some of some of my favorite shows, like 60 minutes in favor of ways for you to nag viewers to donate. I'm on a fixed income during a time of high inflation. Now i can't see a 60 minutes episode and for the same reason, you actually interrupt PBS News Hour for the same old, same old tune. I like Finding your Roots, but I don't need a summary of what Henry Louis Gates has already provided and I've seen.

Do you think I have the power to give you some kind of award for providing these documentaries? I don't. And I don't need to hear from Depak Chopra and some guy who does brain research mainly to suck money out of me to buy their products. Maybe it helps you get by,but couldn't you at least be honest about it? Like maybe donations were $100 million to keep reporters all over hte world all the time and donations have fallen to $80 million since COVID, but couldn't you tell us just how bad it is and what you'd have to let go if you don't get the $20 million that you need?

I get it that you can't charge stations like WKAR even more for your programming.

I was listening to NPR before COVID and I've been watching TV more now, but I am NOT willing to go without myself just to watch your programming. There are plenty of podcasts to listen to while I'm doing housework. Please stop this and just let us what your shows.....
