We are great fans of Washington Week. But we find it very hard to listen to Yamiche Alcindor, not because of what she says but how she says it. She seems to mumble and misspeak and her speech problems interfere with the delivery of her message. PLEASE give her a speech coach. She needs help. Maybe she is a stutterer.

Feedback:

.. or the lack there of. My cable provider is going to block PBS, CNN, and MSNBC as a result of liberal journalistic malpractice. No, Fox is no better, but they didn't have Mr. Capehart lament that conservatives were a far greater than any other external threat. Like comparing a made for TV event like Jan. 6th to 9-11. You people are disgusting.

PBS Great Performances Broadcast of Metropolitan Opera Live Performance of Verdi’s Requiem on September 11, 2021

Massachusetts
Feedback:

Cutting out the last moments of this broadcast was a breach of trust between PBS and the public which funds the network. The live broadcast was a deeply meaningful experience for many of us who needed the solace of the Requiem to acknowledge our grief on the national day of mourning. The insensitivity of cutting off the performance before the climax was appalling. I urge you to issue a public apology for this terrible error, and re-broadcast the performance free of charge to the affiliates for several weeks. I assume that you have heard from many corporate sponsors who are unhappy about this insensitive episode, and I can assure you that I will re-consider my support for PBS unless there is a public apology to both the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and those of us who were very offended by the abrupt and callous ending to a most meaningful spiritual performance in memoriam for the terrible loss of life on September 11, 2001. Sincerely, Kathleen Atkinson Nahant, Massachusetts

programmed music

California
Feedback:

On my latest BMI statement I found the following line item: "CPB WEB MUSIC Title: FOX-COLORLESS SKY BECAME FOG Work no.: 008097257 Use: FF Performance count: 5,575 Period: 20211" With this high a performance count, this is obviously a piece of mine that's used for some sort of recurring purpose--perhaps a show intro or promo. So, I'm simply idly curious about what show or promo it's been used for. Thanks. Jim Fox

Note from CPB: Thank you for contacting the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). CPB has traditionally paid the music rights fees to licensing organizations on behalf of the public broadcasting system. All CPB CSG qualified, NPR Members and PBS Members select and report on the BMI-licensed music used in their programs and CPB does not track this information on behalf of stations. Feedback:

I continue to find Yamiche Alcindor a very annoying presence on PBS. I do not doubt her credentials or the depth of her information and coverage, BUT I CANNOT LISTEN TO HER... She simply TALKS TOO FAST... SHE DOES NOT TAKE A BREATH. She seems like a nervous accomplished student who cannot spill out her information fast enough. She really stands out against all the other reporters as a negative and often prompts me to change the channel. I'm baffled why you continue to engage her as I don't believe my response is an unusual one.

NPR News

I just read this article titled "Idaho's Hospitals Are Overwhelmed, But Many Locals Remain Skeptical Of Vaccines" posted on NPR early this morning, September 12, 2021. It doesn't have the name of the author listed. It credits the story being produced by the Mountain West Bureau. It doesn't have anything about where they got this information. It doesn't have anything about quotes from where they got this information and numbers and data. I talked to a hospital this morning and they denied their ICU beds were 100% full. They said that their hospital beds have not been full since the beginning of the pandemic. The research I've done for my piece, I've found conclusively different facts. There is only one truth.

Programming Suggestion

August 21, 2021
Feedback:

I'm suggesting special programming in light of the evacuation of Afghanistan and Americans rethinking why we go to war, what that means, what it means to try to get out of a war, where the sacrifices in vain, etc. I'm watching your folk music special right now. I think, in the past, you ran a special on how music affected our nation. I haven't seen you run that again. I really liked it. That's the kind of thing you could pull out or extrapolate from. The idea would be for people who get the message that peace is better than war and not to get sucked into wars unnecessarily, or help create them, or even have the consciousness of the energy which helps create them. You can contemplate how to do this and it's not restricted to one program. The rest of the programming out there keeps getting worse. I hope that you can be a beacon of light for humanity, the viewing public. I hope that more people will watch PBS. Seize the moment. This is when more people are attuned to the war versus peace issue.

Feedback:

On the Newshour they had Amy Walter on. She was referring to the image from Charlottesville as if that was the summation of all people think of when thinking of him. Why does she continue to repeat a lie? Even someone as slimy as Jake Tapper indicated that it was just a lie. If you look at the context of what he said, he never said the Nazis were good people. That's clearly just a false narrative that the left continues to lie about. That's clearly a false narrative that the left continues to lie about and even Jake Tapper can't stand the fact that his colleagues continue to repeat something that isn't true over and over. I don't know how you live with yourself, you're intelligent people.

Programming Complaint

Feedback:

My name is Kate Budlong. I am on the West Coast, subject to PBS SoCal. They seem to have completely gone over to commercial sponsors and allowing hours and hours of commercial programming - Suze Orman, or whatever she calls herself; the pseudo-medicine MD; and all kinds of basic garbage science. I was told by one of their operators that they are allowed to do this because they were corporate sponsors. I thought, "wait a minute, what's the difference between this and any other corporate sponsor that gets a minute at a time." Their pledge drives are filled with these things, discrediting all the really valuable programs that PBS is famous for. I think they should lose their nonprofit status because they are certainly not a nonprofit anymore and not a service to the community.

To whom it may concern: I have been a fan of PBS for more Han the 30 plus years that my dear Mother was watching Julia Child. I had become a teacher and told so many about it and the wonderful programs available "back in the dark ages". When I did Vol Work at McCRter Theater in Princeton I did the same. I tell you this only because I still only watch you and the daily news. The big however. you are now too complicated for me to navigate and get in touch with, sad to say. I live in Ewing Twp, N.J. and I did call from time to time but that again what happened? The number is gone and no was answering recently when it was available. I even had my daughter (who now lives in Cambridge,Ma. doing vol work while growing up and at home Would be pleased to hear from you. Eileen D

CPB bias?

New York
Feedback:
The reason so many of you think the CPB is liberal is because it is right. The right way to improve society happens to be "liberal" policies. The opposite side wrongly referred to as conservative is wrong about many of their espoused ideas. If you pit "real" liberals and conservatives in a debate on the air, the liberals would crush the conservatives. These right wing ideas are self-serving and power hungry and bankrupt. Not popular. So that is why CPB appears to be liberal. Do you think the Constitution is a conservative document? No.

Note from CPB: Thank you for contacting us with your concern about funding public media and its content. Public media is a public-private partnership relying on multiple sources of funding in addition to the federal investment. PBS stations have always relied on donations from individuals to provide content to local communities and contributions from members to local stations are the largest single source of support for public television. In 2011, Congress asked CPB to produce a report on alternatives to federal funding for public media (PUBLIC LAW 112–74—DEC. 23, 2011). A link to that report can be found below. PBS Passport, which offers extended access to national and local content, is an added benefit of station membership. It cannot be purchased separately and is not a subscription service. This member benefit is a complement to the fundamental service PBS and PBS stations provide -- access to outstanding programming via over-the-air broadcast and through free streaming for a significant time. Every program available via Passport was previously available for streaming to non-Passport Members after the broadcast. Public media continues to offer the broadest access to freely available TV content – over-the-air on local member stations, through digital platforms and in communities across the U.S. Both local and national content is available without charge from stations around the country through a variety of platforms. https://www.cpb.org/files/aboutcpb/Alternative_Sources_of_Funding_for_Public_Broadcasting_Stations.pdf

Advertising

Wisconsin
Feedback:

I am SO disappointed advertising has come to public television. How can these companies say they are contributors/benefactors when we are forced to watch their advertising. Not OK.

Note from CPB: Thank you for contacting the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). Public media is a public-private partnership in the best tradition of America’s free enterprise system. As part of that public-private partnership, private donations and underwriting combined with the federal investment sustain local public media stations and the services they provide to their communities. FCC rules for non-commercial stations permit contributors of funds to the station to receive on-air acknowledgments. However, unlike commercial media, there are very specific FCC regulations around the kind of language that can be used for messages that air on public media. For more information about these guidelines visit: https://www.fcc.gov/media/radio/nature-of-educational-broadcasting
