November 10, 2020. Mark Shields newspaper column comment

Michigan
Feedback:

I just read Mark Shields column in my local newspaper, the Mining Journal, Marquette, Michigan. Nov. 10, 2020. The article is about two white older men who ran for president. Fire of all, I like Mark Shields, consider myself a progressive Democrat. He mentions the number voting, etc. NOT ONCE, however did M. Shields mention the choice ofKAMALA HARRIS (diversity!) -- By Joe Biden. This is a HUGE factor in the MASSIVE NUMBER of votes for Joe B.

It is still astonishing --to me--that Trump got the number that he did. I have to remind myself that many of those who voted for DT 45 are people who will vote Republican - NO MATTER WHAT forever. Many are white non educated people who think he is going to actually help them. Some Trump voters care only about what they see as the ECONOMY getting better. So really -- Not many are the extremist RIDICULOUS white supremacist wing of this group (the ones who carry guns into Michigans capitol, for example. Another part of his voters are ignorant of actual facts and do not care about the DIVERSITY of this America today. America is changing rapidly -- whether WHITE VOTERS for 45 realize that. Far more states are purple or bue than ever before. Women who voted for Trump are simply voting against their own best interests, like the women of the 50-60s who served dinner in their aprons, Handmaids tale.

Those old white men who voted for Trump need to wake up to a more diverse country. Thats just a fact of American Life.

Thanks, Mark, for the good work. Just a few comments. You needed to add Kamala to the article.

Timeline youtube video don't match the verbage or have missing links.

Georgia
Feedback:

Some of the YouTube videos linked on the history timeline are either broken or do not match to the description. For example the 3-2-1 contact video is "a day in the life of a KISS concert" and the January 12, 1982, American Playhouse video is "for colored girls: somebody almost walked..." October 25, 1971 video is unavailable June 6, 1983 video is unavailable

These are just the ones that I have found. I haven't gone past 1983.

PBS NewsHour

October 22, 2020 from Vermont
Feedback:

I was calling in concern of the PBS NewsHour. I am a local viewer in Vermont. I am concerned that it is not factual news and that it is opinionated news with people sitting there to crap on the President and talk nothing but negative opinions about him. They're not basing the news on facts. It is ridiculous. You guys need to stay neutral with politics. You guys are losing millions and millions of dollars in donations. That is a fact. I watch your news daily. They just commented that Trump interrupted Biden over one hundred times but they did not mention that Biden interrupted Trump over seventy times. It is ridiculous. It is based on opinions not facts. Your news channel is a mess. Just is a Socialist Democrat who can't hold her emotions back. You guys are losing millions in donations. You need to stay neutral in politics.

the "public" WNYC treats the public with contempt

New York
Feedback:

Dear leadership of CPB,

I am writing regarding a problem with the way the "public" WNYC treats its listeners.

I approached WNYC asking them to make a segment on judicial fraud -- judges replacing in their decisions parties' argument with bogus argument of judges' own concoction so as to decide cases the way they want to, not the way they have to -- and when sued for fraud. judges arguing that they have a self-given (in Pierson v. Ray) right to act from the bench "maliciously and corruptly." (I tried to describe this pernicious phenomenon at https://alibi.com/news/61032/Judicial-Fraud-Impacts-Americans.html and you can check my site, www.cajfr.org)

I purchased tickets, and came to several events with Brian Lehrer, their host of political program so as to talk to him, and came to meetings of their Community Advisory Board to advocate for reporting of judicial fraud -- and asked for reason why 1/3 of US government -- its judiciary -- being officially "corrupt and malicious" does not count as "news."

They refused to answer this simple question, and I kept e-mailing them further evidence of judicial fraud. They blocked my e-mail address and phones -- so I cannot e-mail them or call them. Is that a way to treat a listener by a "public" radio station? They are taking money from the public -- from NPR, and thru fund drives in which they assure listeners that they are the epitome of honest reporting, acting in public interest -- which is a lie because investigating how judging is being done, and reporting that judges think they have a right to act "maliciously and corruptly," is manifestly in the public interest, and hiding this as WNYC does, is counter to the public interest -- as is cutting off communications with members of the public just because what they hear from the public is not to their liking.

CPB likely gives WNYC some funds -- this funding should be cut off. WNYC's contempt for the public does not warrant public funding.

Please comment on the experimental error rate (margin of error) for the various trials. Please comment on what the placebos are in the various trials; they are not all the same. Also , why isn’t the appropriate placebo the adjuvant rather than saline? Also, why did the news media not immediately ask for the error rate? it’s the same principle as in political polling.

PBS News Hour

September 24, 2020
Feedback:

Why do you keep lying? It is bad enough that we have to pay taxes to support a left-wing group. This woman Breonna Taylor.. The Attorney General for Kentucky went through the facts from the grand jury, not from a police internal report that you view as skewed. The guy that shot the cops admits that he shot first. The cops returned fire. It was not a no-knock warrant. You keep repeating that no-knock warrant mantra over and over. You just let these things go and you don't challenge it when you get people you're interviewing that lie. You don't question them. You don't bring up the other side. You don't bring up independent facts. This Breonna thing is turning into a riot now because people are operating under a bunch of false assumptions - that it was a no-knock warrant. The paperwork did not say that. The paperwork said that it was a knock and announce warrant and there were independent people that were not related to the police that corroborated that they heard the police. You guys enjoy putting fuel on the fire. People die and get injured because of it. There's blood on your hands. You do it for your liberal agenda and to stir up interest in your show. It's disgusting.

PBS News Hour

Virginia
Feedback:

Lately, the more I see Judy Woodruff's interviews the more frustated I get with how she gets manipulated by the interviewee! Just watched Tim Murtaugh (Trump Communications Director) on the News Hour. So very disappointed again to see Judy Woodruff allow a political operative not answer questions and lie nonstop. And so frustrated to see Judy Woodruff afraid of interrupting and looking so timid and frightened. Why wouldn't she challenge Mr. Murtaugh's assertions? Can we get another person to do real interviews: hard questions, press to get answers, and control the air time!? Please!!

Debates

September 30, 2020
Feedback:

The reporter was saying that Joe Biden was just as bad as Donald Trump. That's just not true. If you care at all about this country, reporters should be supporting Joe Biden. They should be rallying around Joe Biden now. He did very well and it's only going to make him more nervous in his next debate. If you think that he did a bad job in this debate, he surely isn't going to get any better in the next debate. I think Donald Trump will. If you care at all about this country, please rally around Joe Biden.

Feedback:

I love Judy & how she presses for the truth from ppl like McConnell-lying about top economists saying the American ppl are just sitting around avoiding work & collecting those HUGE-HA-unemployment checks.

But I was seriously disappointed by the discussion of the subject line, p****footing around Trump’s outrageous actions bc he got infected with Covid. This penchant to lionize is not what I expect from professional reporters. I want to hear facts, not bleeding hearts.

And if he were to die, then is he suddenly a saint? He has callously rode roughshod over the very lives of the American public, to name but one of his gross offenses against this country.

He doesn’t deserve consideration.

I honestly sat watching wondering how many of Hitler’s atrocities you would brush aside were it he that was the subject of discourse?

Biased reporting on the PBS Newshour

California
Feedback:

I understand that people leaning left or right on the political scale can see bias in reporting and interviewing. I have watched the PBS Newshour on and off for many years and I sense a shift in reporting to the left. For example, following a final report on the unsuccessful impeachment proceedings against the president in late January and February, a PBS Newshour reporter stated that another House Committee would soon launch another inquiry into the president. To which Ms. Woodruff replied forcefully with a smile, "You bet!" This seemed to imply that she wholeheartedly supported yet another attempt oust the president. I thought that was uncalled for and showed extraordinary bias unbecoming a journalist. This is but one example of what I hear regularly on the program. Ms. Woodruff seems to go to great lengths to be harsh and almost uncivil in tone, demeanor and line of questioning of anyone from the Republican side of the political spectrum compared to the softer tone and line of questioning with anyone on the Democratic side and I do not believe I am imagining it. I have seen this in her interviews with the Senator from Wyoming vs. NY's Schumer or Speaker Pelosi. She impatiently interrupts the Republican, not allowing the person to completely answer the question, while letting the Democrat talk on and on without interruption. This results in a different impression of the interviewee, negative as to the Republican and positive for the Democrat. The day to day reporting seems, by implication, to lay the blame for every event at the feet of the current administration, be it a weather event or a racial confrontation or a gun related situation. I get a "gotta" feeling when I watch the Newshour. What I want, and so many other people too, is balanced and fair reporting that the newshour advertises. Reading the CPB viewer comment section, many people do not feel that the PBS Newshour offers balanced, fair reporting. Many Americans do not seem to trust in the news they are receiving from PBS Newshour that is funded, in part, by the taxpayer and viewers. I am one of them. I have found the Wall Street Journal to be far more balanced and educational in the presentation on issues of the day with well written columns and editorials. The news coverage is better too, with reports from many places around the world, rather than touchy feely articles that are weak on information. The WSJ leans conservative, but it provides a forum for differing views, such as a column by Rahm Emanuel on why Biden would be a president for change and Trump is a disrupter, or the column on the background of Harris' mother, a Tamil Brahmin, from a culture that highly values education, who was forced to leave India due to quota systems for employment. This explains why Harris as SF DA prosecuted parents of truant children. She values education too. It's a pity she has been reviled by the black community for this effort. Without an education, there is no hope of becoming a contributing member of our society. What I seek in the news is a variety of opinion and wide range reporting so I can form my own opinions. The PBS Newshour does not measure up and in fact it is a disappointment. Another PBS program, Amanpour and Company is equally disappointing and is even more biased in its presentations. Recently, the program had as guests, the Lt Governor or Michigan (democrat) and the woman who started Republicans against Trump, to discuss the upcoming election in the battleground state. There was no interview with a Republican or a group that is against Biden. There was no balance in the program. Why do you continue to carry such a one-sided excuse for journalism? Ms. Amanpour seems to have abandoned any standards of journalism in her programs and they should be offered as commentary and entertainment. She is reputed to have said, "when you are neutral, you are an accomplice." This should not be the position of a journalist and yet the PBS Newshour program and Amanpour and Company appear to be anything but neutral.

Question for Aman Nawaz

Feedback:

Dear Aman - I appreciate ALL your talents and how you use them to keep me informed and connected! Could you please satisfy one simple, strange curiosity that I've had since you have been reporting in various settings? I have a 37-book set of classics that looks exactly like the matching red books on the shelf behind one of your reporting sets. Try as I might, I can't read the titles of the volumes! My set goes from "The Works of Balzac" to "The Works of Zola." What title are on the shelf? My set was printed by Black's Readers Service Company, Roslyn, New York, in 1925. I haven't read all 37 volumes, though I've dipped into many of them over the years! Thanks for satisfying my curiosity! - Elaine Frick, Columbia, SC.

pbs programming

Florida
Feedback:

I am legally blind as are over three milion people in the US. I know that PBS accomodates the hearing impaired with captions. However, when programs have people speaking in other languages, there is no voice over to help us understand what is being said. Also, with some shows that are hard to understand there are also sub titles and again, low or no vision patrons are left out. Of course it is not only PBS but all TV staions, but supposedly PBS is interested in accessibility. Another issue the diversity of programming in SW Florida. We are "snowbirds" and have the opportunity to compare programming in Fla. and Southestern, Connecticut(Ct.) Though the couhnty in Ct. is not affluent about two and half hrs. NYC, we have six PBS channels wh are: Ch.2; Boston: Ch.13, Hartford: Ch1160, Create; Ch.1161"Sorit"; Ch.1146 World and chPBS44, local PBSBoston. One thing are do appreciate is that Friday and Saturday night are a little"special". Series such as "Dr. Blake" and "Mid-Sommer Murders" and other interesting programs are aired. So too, they have finally cancelled "The Lawrence Welk Show, which has been on my whole teen and adult life and I am 77. It is really time to say "Goodbye" to Lawrence. While you are at it, "Keeping up Appearance" and "As Time Goes By" need to be laid to rest. :ast is the repetition; I know your funds have been cut but repeating things ten to twenty times a month is wearing. If you must repeat, go back to your succesful series from the past such as "Jewel in the Crown" and re-run" those. Because I have twice as many choices in Ct. the repetition does not bother me as much.
